Erik did great today....he walked quite a bit farther and they took off his neck brace. He has a huge knot in his neck, but its to be expected from having that brace on for 2-1/2 weeks. Erik was able to open his eyes a little, and see out of them - but they are still pretty swollen.
Because Erik is cooperating so much more, the Occupational Therapist actually gave him the recommendation to get released to the Providence Acute Rehab Center (the goal place, instead of the nursing home). This is great news! Now we just have to wait for the Providence Rehab place to accept him(after they review his file), and have a place to put him. So this means, he might be at OHSU for a few more days. Yes, he might still go to the nursing home - but we'll see??!! Erik is pretty homesick, especially after seeing Tanner. I think this has given him new motivation to work hard to get better. This has not gone unnoticed by OT.
